Cleaning the Clutter Step 1

Ok so we all have it, the bad "c" word, clutter. It is everywhere, some may be hidden or it may be out in the open. I have a few snippets of what my clutter looks like....DON'T JUDGE!!

We all have it in some shape or form. It can even be organized clutter. What is organized clutter? It is clutter that looks pretty! Pretty clutter is still clutter. Mine is in the form of a bookshelf that is overflowing, a corner shelf that has one to many items on it!!

To many knick-knacks is pretty clutter!! To many picture frames on one small shelf is pretty clutter.

I am going to help you through this time in your life by going nice and easy, slow and smooth with you. This is not an overnight process!! We will go in steps. Baby steps. I know people can have emotional attachments to their things, I have been there. It can be hard to part with something you do not want to get rid of....that's ok!! Keep it. The point of this exercise and all the ones I am going to share with you are not to make you uncomfortable, but to set you free!!

Step 1 is all about identifying the clutter. Take mental notes, or an actual paper note if you need to, of what you want to tackle. What areas are driving you bonkers??!! Which drawer can you clean out and use for something else??

Make a plan, tell yourself what you want. What do you want that area to look like when you are done. What will you do with the things you are getting rid of? Where will you put the items you want to keep? What tools/buckets/cabinets/baskets, etc will you be needing to keep it organized? Also, make note of how this clutter makes you feel. Does it stress you out?? Then get rid of that stress! How, you may ask? One small step at a time.

Ok, so we have identified our problem area. Good. You have made a list of where you are placing these items, great!! That was the easy part!! Let's move on to step 2!!!
