Book Review: The Southern Foodies Guide to the Pig
I love to cook southern dishes because I am from Louisiana, I love the culture and the taste from the south. When this book became available you bet I snatched it up!!
This thick soft covered book is full of awesome information about the history of the pig, what parts are used for what, ways to cook those parts, restaurants who became famous for their tasty recipes using those parts and a full recipe guide teaching me how to do the same!!
Ok I will have to say my favorite section in the book was the dessert recipes that used bacon. I mean come on, who doesn't LOVE bacon! And to add it to brownies? UM Yeah!!! I have yet to try it because my husband is skeptical, but one day I will sneak it in!
There are some amazing tips on what rubs and spices to use for a particular cut, which helps when you get tired of cooking the same ole' same ole'.
I particularly like the way the author speaks of pork's juicy goodness and really emphasizes the concept of saving bacon grease for cooking other dishes. I know that is not the healthiest way of cooking, but sometimes you just gotta eat for taste and not health!!
When this book says Southern Foodie, it's talking all comfort food. If you aint looking to tickles your taste buds and possibly gain a pound or two, this book isn't for you!! Hahaha!!
This book is packed full of pork goodness, tips and advice, recipes and photos! You will love it!!
