Standing During Trials

August 01, 2018

It seems every time I get back up the enemy comes and knocks me back down.
I just want to sit down and throw a temper tantrum. You know the kind where a kid sits on the ground crisscross applesauce with their arms folded and their little bottom lip all puckered out. Yeah, just like that.

But every time I go to give up after a major trial I remember God has called us to stand (1 Cor. 16:13- Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong). So I get back up, brush off the dirt satan threw at me and stand.

Brother, sister, when you get beaten down by the enemy you need to remember that God gave you armour to help you fight the enemy...ok, so I'm preaching to myself here more than anything, but we all need to hear it.

Its so easy to be negative and bitter at life when things don't go our way. Its just within our nature to sulk and throw a fit. But that's why the Bible tells us to die to self. I don't mean to literally die you silly billy, but die to your selfish and carnal nature so your spiritual self will grow and live (Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 4:22-23).

Will this automatically mean life will be grand? Not at all! But it empowers you to withstand the fiery darts the enemy will throw your way! And if you don the entire armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) you will be totally equipped to not only withstand, but fight offensively and defensively!

  • So gird your loins with truth- then you will not believe the lies the enemy will throw at you!
  • Put on the breastplate of righteousness- this will protect your heart from falling into temptations; and from falling into temptations, or anything that will try to destroy your foundation (your heart is the foundation of your walk with God).
  • Shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace- you will always be ready to spread the gospel to others; the Word of God will be stored inside you and you will be prepared to share it with others
  • Take up your shield of faith- this will deflect anything that will come your way.
  • Put on that helmet of salvation- this will protect your mind from any negativity, lies, etc (the greatest battle that takes place is ALWAYS in your mind. Without that helmet that continually reminds you that you are saved, you will not succeed in fighting the enemy).
  • And lastly, wield that sword of the spirit! This is the very Word of God. USE IT!! Read it, memorize it, speak it, declare it!! When you are going through tough times, the Word of God will remind you of who you are, what God says about His love, His strength, His thoughts and His will for you.

You and I have a lot to lose if we sit down and quit fighting. We cannot give up!! Will you stand with me?
