Making the Most of Your Local Library

January 23, 2020

Nowadays, information is easily accessible online. We no longer need to head to the library to scour through books looking for answers to questions we have. Instead, we just get to do a quick query in a search engine and have all the answers we need at our fingertips. Books are increasingly affordable for the readers amongst us, and they needn’t take up a lot of room in our living spaces, seeing as we can download thousands of books onto ereaders. All of these things mean that many of us no longer use local libraries. But this is such a shame! Libraries are great resources for so many reasons and have so much to offer us!

Libraries give us a space for learning. They give us quiet rooms for study and private learning. They also serve as a perfect space for the wider community to come together for discussion and sharing ideas. Libraries often also have centres for other resources, including language classes, other forms of classes, and outreach to social services, welfare, public assistance, housing resources, healthcare, and employment resources. Even if you have your own laptop and books at home, your library can give you sanctuary where you actually go to focus. These are academic spaces and a great environment to work in! The infographic below will give you a little more insight into libraries, so have a read and remember exactly why you should make the most of your own local library!
