A Heart Willing To Work Proverbs 31 Woman

High Ho, It's Off To Work We Go

"She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands." Proverbs 31: 13

Oh boy, this scripture gets me every time. I try so very hard to get my work done every single day, but most days I fall extremely short. I know, I know, I am a stay at home mom. "How do you not have time to clean?"

The biggest reason for me is lack of motivation.
There, I said it.
There is no joy in the work that I do.
But this should not be so.

The Bible says I should work willingly with my hands. So what exactly is willingly??

~Ready, prompt to act or respond.
~Done, borne, or accepted of choice or without reluctance.
~voluntary
~willing obedience

OUCH!!!

Let me just say I struggle to do any of those things!! This lesson is more for me than it is for anyone else!!

When I think about what a willing worker is, I think about someone who throws her whole being into her task. Someone who works as "unto the Lord and not unto man". This is extremely hard for me, I tend to procrastinate and come up with a million reasons why it doesn't really matter if I do not scrub the toilets today. I cannot say that I throw my whole being into scrubbing the pearly thrones!!

The Lord has an awesome way of bring things that need work to our attention. It never fails, when my house is a disaster is when someone decides to stop by for a visit. Embarrassing!! Then I chastise myself for not having my house presentable for a guest.

God has been working extremely hard on my heart in this matter. I have been pumping myself up by saying over and over in my head, "Jesus is coming for a visit; pretend Jesus is coming for dinner."  But if I stop and think about it, Jesus comes every single night for dinner!! Even more embarrassing! The King of Kings comes into this house looking that that!! Oh my, Lord help me!

Here are some suggestions that have helped me be more willing to work with my hands:

1- Pray about your tasks-  Before I get out of bed in the morning I pray and ask the Lord to give me the strength and motivation to accomplish my tasks for the day. I notice the mornings that I do not do this, I drag around and do not get as much done.

2- Memorize and recite scriptures-  I have decorative paper taped to doors, cabinets and mirrors throughout my house with scriptures that motivate me to work. Here are a few that I love:

3- Tackle tasks with determination-  Just get up and do it! Turn off the television, phones or any other distraction. Turn on the radio and sing while cleaning. I have at times gotten a timer and challenged myself to beat the clock. I know this sounds a bit childish, but it did put a fun twist on the not so fun chores.

4- Think of the outcome-  When we get it all of our checklist checked off, we get a sense of satisfaction. So think about that feeling while you are in the middle of vacuuming the floor. Think about the smile your hubby will have when he comes home from work, think about how good you will feel when you sit down and look at how pretty your house looks.

5- Be sure to pause and rest-  Do not wear yourself out which will then demotivate you. Rest when you need to and make sure to drink plenty of water!! But do not sit for to long, you might not get back up!

6- Eat healthy snack and drink lots of water-  Fuel for the body is just as important as fuel for the soul. While you are taking your break, replenish your energy with a handful of nuts, or fruits. Drinking plenty of water will keep your from getting dehydrated.

I have now compiled a list for myself!! Haha!!

I have recently implemented these into my cleaning routine and they do help!!

I hope these help you!

Do you have any suggestions on how you get motivated??

I can definitely understand the challenges in being willing to work. Sometimes I look around my apartment and have to push myself into tidying up, but like you mentioned thinking of the outcome is a great motivator for me.
