Lean On Me: Book Review

October 01, 2014

*Wonderfully Messy Mom received this book in exchange for a review

I wanted this book after reading the description.

It readsIn Lean On Me, Anne Marie Miller takes us along as she sets out to dig below the superficial and explore what choices are necessary to find intentional, vulnerable, and consistent community. Jesus was passionate about truth-speaking relationships. And with Anne Marie’s narrative and practical insights interwoven together, you will feel more equipped in your quest for these types of relationships as you seek people to lean on and as you pour love into those around you.

I have a hard time being open and vulnerable but I'm very successful at being committed. Throughout the whole book the author, Anne Miller, takes us through what the differences of being committed vs. non-committed looks like; vulnerable vs. not vulnerable; all the while telling her own personal stories.

I guess I was looking for more of a self help, step by step approach to how to create great relationships, but this book provided more depth that I ever expected. Sometimes those steps and tell you how to do it books are great, but to see it in action through someone else's eyes is priceless.

Anne shares how her sudden divorce spirals her mentally, physically, emotional and financially out of control. She was suffering, all. alone. Then a good friend talks wisdom into her life, speaks truth and opens a door for hope and new life. She suggests getting 10-15 trusted people to become accountable to and with.

Those 10 people were her life support when she needed it the most. They shared their homes, their finances, their wisdom, Jesus, and their love. She grew, she relapsed into depression and self dependence, she grew some more, relapse, grew...you get the picture.

I was inspired by this book to look at my own life and ask myself, "am I being real? Am I being vulnerable AND committed?" Those were some tough questions. But I looked and now I know were I excell and were I need to improve!!

It was a great read; I read it in 2 days!!
