How To Make a Spray Deodorant

We all see the homemade solid/paste recipes for deodorant, but those are next to impossible to carry around with you in the hot summer months in your purse. So I went on a quest to find a homemade spray deodorant that I could take anywhere.

First I researched herbs and essential oils that are antibacterial and antiseptic.

These are some that I came up with:
Frankincense
Tea Tree
Lavender
Rose Geranium

I also researched what would be the best things to add to those oils that would keep body odor at bay, and not irritate the skin. Most recipes online used alcohol (like everclear) and witch hazel. Others used some aloe vera jel, while some used distilled water.

My brain got to thinking. What about the baking soda? No one had baking soda. I like baking soda!!

So after thinking about it and trying to figure out the ratios- I did look at several websites and found a common denominator and built my recipe upon those.

DIY Spray Deodorant Recipe

1/4 cup high percentage clear alcohol (not rubbing alcohol)
1/4 cup witch hazel
1/4 cup aloe vera jel- do not use the sunburn gel from drug stores!
1/4 tsp baking soda
10 drop essential oil of choice

Take a bowl or spray container and add all the contents. Shake up to dissolve the baking soda.
Shake before each use and spray lightly onto each arm. Let dry for a minute.
