As a parent, you have a duty of care to your children. As well as feeding, clothing, and making sure they're safe, you must put their health first.

Of course, this doesn't mean that you should neglect your well-being, though, because if you or your partner gets sick, there is nobody to shoulder the responsibility. A family requires a holistic healthcare plan, yet they aren't cheap.

As a result, you might have to make decisions that aren't in your or your family's best interests; however, your finances shouldn't be the reason for ill health. With that in mind, here are four thrifty ways to cut costs without putting your futures at risk.

Switch To A Family Practice

The clue is in the title - a family practice takes care of your entire household. Whether it's you and your significant other or the kids, they have policies that include everyone. As a result, a family medical clinic could save you a lot of money as it consolidates your healthcare payments into a single bill. Plus, there's no need to worry about their expertise as family medicine is a specialty in itself. If you haven't already, you might want to consider switching to a doctor who is an expert at treating patients of all ages and genres.

Speak To Your Employer

Job perks can save families a small fortune as your employer picks up the tab and leaves you free to spend your disposable income. However, your boss won't offer the best benefits to you on a silver platter - you have to ask. Many employees don't, and companies get away with providing workers with the bare minimum. By being entitled, you can get your business to pay for healthcare, gym memberships and dental, and eliminate the expenses from your monthly total.

Or Join The Farm Bureau

The Farm Bureau represents the agriculture industry, so you're forgiven for assuming that you aren't eligible to join unless you're a farmer. Yet, it's not the case as pretty much anyone can become a member by paying the annual fee. Aside from being cheap (around $50 or less), it also entitles you to a range of health benefits in your state. This makes it an excellent option for families whose main breadwinners are self-employed and can't rely on their employers to pick up the check. Research how to apply and what you can get in your area for more info.

Check For Subsidies

Trump's current regime is trying hard to wipe away the Obama administration's achievements, but you can find them if you look hard enough. The Affordable Care Act is an example of a healthcare scheme that helps families find the most comprehensive and affordable coverage. You can find out about subsidies and potential grants by heading to the healthcare.gov website and checking whether you qualify. Even if you assume that you earn too much, it never hurts to double-check in case there's a loophole that makes you eligible.

A Google search is the thriftiest and easiest way to save on your family's health!
