You want your child to be many things: you want them to be friendly, active, loving, and smart. Alas, this last one is usually a little complicated. Even if they are smart, sometimes channeling it in the right direction can be a difficult task. Because there’s an upper limit to how many times children (or anyone, for that matter) can be told to do something -- like studying -- it’s best that they “naturally”  come to the conclusion that it’s the right thing to do. You can’t drag your child to a place where they like studying, but you can show them the way. Here’s how you do it.

There’s an argument that you shouldn’t read children’s books to your kids. The language is far too simple. It’s better, some say, to throw them in the deep end like you would if you were teaching them to swim, and surround them with more complicated novels. They might not understand the words or concepts initially, but it’s all slowly sinking into their brain. Now, you can’t force a child to read Pride & Prejudice or whatever, but you can make it easy for them to come across it on their own by having a big bookshelf filled with good works. The toys in the home, too, should be educational. The idea is that they’ll pick up these intellect boosting items out of their own curiosity. 

One of the reasons why kids object to everything educational is because they think it’s boring, and truthfully, sometimes it’s hard to argue with that assessment. If you’re dragging them around one of those traditional museums that just have old artifacts in a glass cabinet, then sure they’ll be bored! Instead, look at ways to make it fun. There are plenty of awesome hands-on, interactive museums around, for example, while a walk in the woods can be an adventure and educational (providing they have a knowledgeable tour guide!). 

Many kids are naturally curious and want to know as much as possible. They’re born learners, and thus you don’t really need to get them on board with education: they’re already there. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t help them along their journey. For starters, you can encourage them to carry on walking down that path. Second, you can handle any issues that may inhibit their education. If they have some trouble with their learning, then take a look at Behavioral Therapy. It might just be the thing they need to be able to reach their full potential. 

Everyone’s smart in their own ways. Your child will best express their intelligence if they’re using it for something that they naturally enjoy. As such, it’s recommended that you learn the value of helping your son or daughter to pursue their interests. Even if it’s a bit fringe -- let’s say, not something obvious such as mathematics or biology -- then it doesn’t matter. If they can dive deep into the subject, then it’ll serve them well in the long run.
