Connect with your family

During Covid, times are hard, with many families struggling to keep it together, whether it be financially, too much time together, or job security. Make sure as a family you are connecting and are in regular communication. Whether it be a weekly board games night, or just sitting around a table and catching up. It’s always good to communicate, let each other know how you feel, and to get your kids away from their screens.

Exercise is important

Make sure you aren’t staying locked in your house and not getting any exercise. It’s lovely to be within your family’s presence, but too much can cause tension and make it hard for you all to get along. Make sure you are regularly going for walks and getting some fresh air. You could always take up running, go for a bike ride, or even purchase a trampoline for the back garden. Remember, it is recommended you do 150 minutes of exercise a week.

Try and learn a new skill

Improving yourself, or as a family working together can help your mental health. Learning a new skill together enables you to connect and have some fun while learning together. It can also help with confidence and self-esteem. If you’re not very good at baking, why not get your family together, have a bake-off, and see who can make the best cake. While getting in a competitive spirit, you will also be learning and improve your baking skills.

Take a break

Life can be full-on at times, with the best cure for anything is to take a break. Book a few days off and spend it with your family. Organize a few days where you can watch some films, get a takeaway, or enjoy a family day out. Not only will it be exciting for the kids, but it will also be exciting for yourselves and give you a chance to be together as a family with no distractions.

Eat well

You may not realize it, but when as a family, you are feeling demotivated, your diet can go out the window. Instead of eating well, you find yourself snacking more and cooking up dinners, which aren’t as healthy. A good diet can make you and your family feel better, sleep better, and be in a better mood. Try and make sure you are all getting your recommended five a day, with plenty of vegetables in your dinner.

Just by making some small changes to your day to day life, you can feel a lot better and has a family connect more. Sometimes it’s a case of all getting too comfortable around each other and not communicating. Do you have any tips that have helped with your family’s mental health and wellbeing?
