Small Changes For Better Health and Well Being

January 12, 2021

Sometimes when it comes to making changes in our lives we can get very caught up in big gestures. You know, like doing things such as changing our entire exercise routine, or the way that we eat. However, while these big changes often make us feel good in the short term, they may not be sustainable in the longer term and indeed because of this can just further increase our sense of failure. With that in mind, finding some smaller and more manageable changes may be the right approach for better health and well being. Keep reading for some smaller change suggestions you can try out below.

A mindful minute

One small change in your life you can make to improve your health and wellbeing is to practice a mindful minute. The idea here is not to put the pressure on yourself of starting a whole meditation routine, but itself to take a single minute out of every hour that you are awake to foster a perspective of mindfulness.

What is such a perspective? Well, it's where you shift your consciousness from fusing with your thoughts to just observing them without judgement. Of course, there are plenty of advantages of developing this skill too, from giving you some distance from your own self-critical thoughts to being less reactive when you are interacting with others. Both of which can certainly help promote a more robust sense of wellbeing and lower stress.

Improve your posture

Another small change you can make in your life that can have a huge impact on your health and wellbeing is to improve your posture. Indeed, sitting and standing with the correct alignment means we can breathe properly and place less strain on our ligaments and muscles.

However, being able to remember to correct our posture can be challenging at times. Although, the good news is that there are devices that can help us with this task. The first of these is what is known as a posture brace, which is a physical device that corrects the positioning of cour shoulders, essentially forcing us into the correct posture.

Alternatively, you may wish to try an electronic device like the posture minder which notifies you when your posture is not correct and allows you to alter it. This device also encourages proper breathing, which can have a profound effect on our health in the long term and even give us an immediate mood boost.

Do a little something for you

Self-care is a real watch-word in the media right now. However, don't be fooled, you don't have to sign up for a two week cleanse or yoga retreat to provide yourself with a little mood and well-being boost. Instead, there are many small changes you can make in your day to nourish your spirit.

For example, you may choose to sit and eat a healthy breakfast rather than grabbing a coffee on the way to work. Alternatively, you may also choose to take 10 minutes out of your busy day to read a book and take a little escape from reality. Indeed, the nature of the self-care action itself does not matter as much as its ability to promote a sense of happiness and wellbeing.
