If you are on the lookout for your dream home or are thinking of moving on, when you find a house that is either your dream home or one that comes with “good bones,” you've got to remember it's not just about that initial reaction you get. Appearances can be deceiving, especially when on the lookout for our dream home. Therefore, you have got to keep your eye out for some common underlying issues, including the following:

Mold and Mildew

It's vital to keep your eye out for signs of mold in corners of rooms, especially those that don't get as much air. You also need to keep your eye out for any areas that have mold around sources of water. Mold is a particularly big problem, especially if there are problems with the plumbing, but you can address the plumbing situation by checking for any leakages behind the walls. Because if you end up neglecting this, you're not just going to end up contacting a plumber and a water damage restoration company, but the home will be uninhabitable for the foreseeable future! When it comes to mold, you can get rid of it by airing that room, however, if there's a crack in the wall or any gaps in the window, this is where moisture can creep in.

Pesky Pests

Sometimes we can look at the home and think that it's got great bones, but common household pests like termites and rats could be lurking within the attic. When you are looking at a property, you've got to conduct your due diligence and keep an eye out for any signs of problem pests, such as strange smells and droppings. There are also plenty of problem pests that can cause major issues depending on the season, so it's important to be eagle-eyed for any areas of this property where pests can thrive.

Problems With the Roof and Foundations

We need to remember that the home needs to be sturdy and solid from bottom to top. Any signs of a damaged roof can cause problems in purchasing that home because of the cost involved in fixing it all up. Roof issues span a variety of concerns; sometimes they just need new shingles, but if the foundation is cracked too, this is going to be incredibly hazardous to anybody who chooses to dwell within!

Environmental Issues

Any homes built prior to the 1970s have been painted with lead, as well as house substances like asbestos and Radon. If you suspect any potential warning signs of toxins like asbestos or radon, the temptation could be to try and fix these things yourself, but you should not! Get in contact with a specialist

The Neighborhood

While we can look at the home on its own merit, we have to think about how it fits in with the bigger picture. When we're looking at a new property, we shouldn’t just get a feel for the home, but get a feel for the community too! Because if you end up with problem neighbors, this is going to cause you to think twice!
