Whether they are the windows to the soul or not, your eyes are essential to your daily life. Although we have five senses, vision is the primary sense for the vast majority of people. Yet, just like anything else we use every day, it can be taken for granted and can deteriorate if not well maintained.

Keep Allergies at Bay

Even if you get mild symptoms, allergies to airborne pollutants such as pollen can cause severe reactions in your body. One of the most noticeable is itchy eyes that can leave your eyes irritated, puffy and red. You can use hayfever eyedrops that actively combat the effects of allergens. However, the long-term effects of allergies can cause droopy eyes for which OTC drops don't work. For this, you will need prescription ptosis eyedrops from your GP.

Don't Be Afraid to Wear Glasses

Some people are terrified at the prospect of wearing glasses. For some reason, there is a belief in a social stigma that doesn't really exist. And in most cases, spectacles will make you look better, cooler, and are now an accepted and coveted fashion item. Additionally, suppose you need glasses and don't wear them. In that case, you will exacerbate existing eye problems because of the added strain placed on your nerves.

Wash Your Eyes If You Need To

A typical eye problem is feeling like there is debris in your eyes. That's because there is. When you sleep, your eyes should form a lubricating layer between the lids, but sometimes they don't. This causes debris to form, which gets into your eyes. The feeling is uncomfortable, but you can easily wash it away. You can use eye drops, but this doesn't always work. You can also place your head into warm water and rapidly blink. This will cause any artifacts to be washed away.

Protect Your Eyes When Necessary

Like any other part of your body, your eyes are sensitive to certain external stimuli. Just as loud sounds can damage your ears, bright light can damage your eyes. Additionally, the UV rays associated with the sun can cause additional damage. To protect your eyes, you should always wear sunglasses when sitting outside in the sun. You should choose glasses that block both UVB and UVA rays as this will provide the most protection. However, be aware that it doesn't have to be sunny for UV rays to affect your eyes.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Your eyes are organs, and like all other organs, they are greatly affected by your diet. Some people aren't aware of this, but what you eat can have a negative impact on your vision, making a healthy diet essential for eye protection. Foods high in saturated fats such as mayonnaise, high-carb foods like pasta and rice, and fatty meats are bad for your eyes. If you consume any of these regularly, it is advised that you accompany them with fresh leafy greens such as kale. Omega-3-rich fish like salmon and tuna are good for eye health, as are non-meat proteins like nuts, beans, and eggs.
