The great thing about the Internet is that it makes it easier for us to find information than ever before. On the flip side, though, the Internet is filled with so-called experts who claim to know everything there is to know about, well, everything! This can be risky when it comes to matters concerning our health. The last thing you want to do is follow a piece of advice that is incorrect. So, with that in mind, we are going to debunk some of the common medical and healthcare myths below…

We only use 10 percent of our brain - This is something that self-help gurus and motivational speakers have been saying for over 100 years! This could not be further than the truth. Scientists today have the capacity to look at brain scans, measuring activity over periods of time, and they have laughed off the idea that only 10 percent of the brain is used.

Only elderly people experience hearing loss - You can experience hearing loss no matter your age. Yes, age can be a factor, but there are other types of hearing loss, such as noise-induced hearing loss. No matter the type of hearing loss you have, you can learn more about the different accessories available online.

Cold weather makes you sick - This is undoubtedly one of the most commonly believed health-related myths out there. Studies have shown that when we are chilled, we may feel more cold symptoms, whether these are imaginary orindeed real. However, the temperature itself does not make us more susceptible to illnesses and viruses. Whether or not you are shivering cold or nice and warm, this does not actually influence how likely you are to pick up an illness.

You can’t change your home care provider - There are lots of people all around the world who rely on home care. However, a lot of people mistakenly believe that they are stuck with the same provider no matter what. This is especially the case for those benefiting from state healthcare or some form of government monetary assistance. However, changing your home care provider does not need to be stressful and complicated. It comes highly recommended if you are not happy or comfortable with your current provider.

Vaccines can cause the flu and autism - Last but not least, there seems to be a health myth going around that the flu shot can cause the flu, which seems to defeat the purpose, right? This is probably because of the fact that the flu shot features dead flu viruses. However, the key word here is dead! Plus, while a low-grade fever can take place, the flu does not develop. In regards to autism, this myth was started about 20 years ago due to a study involving only eight children! It has since been disproved.

So there you have it: some of the most common medical and healthcare myths that don’t seem to go away. Hopefully, though, this article has put a few of them to bed and you feel a bit more confident regarding what is the truth and what isn’t.
